Neurology

Two neurologists are looking at a scan of a brain on a computer and talking about it.

Neurology deals with diseases of the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. These include conditions such as strokes, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease.

The goal is to understand the causes and symptoms of these diseases and to find appropriate methods of diagnosis and treatment. Neurology also develops and applies methods for rehabilitation and prevention of nerve diseases. For many affected persons, symptoms of illness often result in a new situation, so that individual consultation is of great importance.

A diagnosis is often the first step for the initiation of therapeutic treatments. Clarifications and treatments of diseases are performed in the outpatient neurology clinic. Common conditions include multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, peripheral compression syndromes, nerve root disorders, clarifications following a stroke, epilepsy and headaches such as migraines, and muscular diseases. If necessary, electrophysiological measurements are taken and further clarifications are arranged. Another focus area is advice on inpatient or outpatient neurorehabilitation.
